Koby Wins Most Outstanding Clinical Research Presentation

Thomas Koby-Hercsky, a first-year student at the University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD), was awarded the Most Outstanding Clinical Research Presentation prize at the 2022 Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, Tennessee.

Thomas’ presentation focused on an algorithm he developed to predict the degree of conversion of resin-based composites. The degree of conversion is an important measure of the physical and mechanical properties of the composite, and Thomas’ algorithm was able to accurately predict these properties.

Mentored by UFCD Clinical Assistant Professor Mateus Rocha and Clinical Assistant Professor Dayane Oliveira, Thomas’ hard work and dedication to research were recognized by the judges and conference attendees. We are proud of Thomas’ achievement and look forward to seeing his future successes in dentistry.

The Center for Dental Biomaterials is a leading research facility at UFCD that focuses on the development and evaluation of innovative materials and technologies for use in dentistry. The summer research program provides an opportunity for students to work closely with faculty mentors and conduct research in a variety of areas related to dental biomaterials. Thomas’ work at the Center for Dental Biomaterials has clearly paid off, as his research was recognized with this prestigious award. We are proud of his achievement and grateful for the support and guidance of the faculty and staff at the Center for Dental Biomaterials and Office of Research in helping him to develop his research skills.
